Rockstar Games’ open-world action playground Grand Theft Auto V may have cost up to $266 million (approximately Rs 1726 crore) to develop and market, according to a report by Scottish newspaper The Scotsman.
It’s difficult to tell precisely how much of this figure was spent in the actual production of the game. But the release of this figure has been enough to shoot Grand Theft Auto IV to the top of the most expensive video games ever made list. The closest video game to Grand Theft Auto V, in terms of expense, is Star Wars: The Old Republic at $200 million ( Rs 1304 crore)
The piece claims that industry analysts are predicting that up to 25 million copies of the game could be sold in its first year on the market, representing more than £1 billion (Rs 65000 crore) in sales.
Grand Theft Auto V launches globally next week on September 17 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
