Today at New York Comic Con, Marvel and Activision announced The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
A sequel to last year’s movie tie-in title, the game is in development for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as well as Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, 3DS, and PC.
Veteran Spider-Man studio Beenox is developing The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which will be released alongside the upcoming movie The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in May 2014.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game is a third-person action game that will offer an alternative take on the events of the upcoming film. “Enhanced” free-roaming web-slinging gameplay in a “greatly expanded” New York City is also promised.
“We’re giving gamers more abilities, more upgrades, more challenges, and more freedom to progress,” Beenox studio co-head Thomas Wilson said. “And with the game launching alongside the new movie, offering an expanded interactive experience beyond the film, fans of the franchise won’t want to miss playing it.”
Players will battle new enemies alongside old friends as they take on a “new threat” to the city, Activision said. The game will also place a greater emphasis on Peter Parker, as he “investigates the complicated motivations and unique personalities behind the menagerie of Marvel menaces threatening Manhattan.”
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will also feature a new “Hero or Menace” system that “incentivizes super hero behavior” by rewarding crime-fighting behavior and adding consequences for allowing criminality to thrive.
